You are about to download: 3.1 Communication: augmentative and assistive strategies (v1.0)

Instructions: Save the ZIP folder to your computer’s hard drive in a location where you will be able to find it easily. Once your computer has completed the download, you will need to ‘unzip’ the folder to access the contents of the module and any related materials such as PDFs. Rather than double-clicking on the folder, you’ll need to right-click on it (or press the control key and click on a Mac) to extract the files. To make any future updates easier, do not change the folder’s name. Once you have accessed the folder, you will need to double-click on the file titled ‘start.html’. This will open the module in your default internet browser, where you can work through it even if you are offline.

Please note that running a module offline may slightly impact upon its appearance and functionality, and you will not be able to access some linked resources (hosted on other websites) without an internet connection.

Problems viewing video? If you use Firefox or Internet Explorer, you may also find that some video resources will not play in your browser when you’re working offline. We’ve supplied a link with each video to open it in your default media player if this happens.

The mp4 videos on this site are not compatible with older versions of Windows Media Player. If you want to watch the videos offline, please download an alternative such as QuickTime or RealPlayer, and set this as your default media player.

Alternatively, you may choose to work through the materials in Chrome or Safari.

From time to time, modules need to be updated, for example to reflect changes in legislation and research. A downloadable update will be available alongside the main download link for any module to which this applies. This will negate the need for you to download the module in its entirety again. All updates must be saved to your computer in the same folder as the relevant module.

If you haven't visited the site in a while, there may have been several updates since you downloaded a module. These are indicated by version numbers. The downloadable update will only contain the most recent changes to the module. The version number of your most recent download will be included in a .txt file, titled ‘version’, within the module folder (or updated module folder) that is saved to your computer. If the details in this file indicate that the version you have saved is not the one immediately preceding the most recent version (as indicated in the module title on this page), you will need to download the whole module again, deleting your previously saved version beforehand.

You will also need to follow this procedure of re-downloading the module if you experience any technical difficulties during an update that cannot be resolved by the above instructions.
